Israel Stollman collection of stereographs. 1850-1939.

Ca. 9,100 items of which the majority are photographic stereographs on paper. There are also a small number of transparencies and images printed on glass. Featured is a large collection of views of New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C., in addition to dozens of other cities in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The collection also holds views of major expositions from the Crystal Palace (London, 1851) to the Century of Progress Exposition (Chicago 1933-34). There are also small groupings of general subjects including famous personalities, interiors, railroads and genre scenes. Nearly every major photographer and publisher of stereo views is represented in this collection; about ten percent of the views are unique. These rarities include early European views and American views by small town photographers. There are also a number of scarce views such as Frank Good's images of the Middle East or those by Charles Bierstadt.
